13 Days Tour to Dankile Depression Trekking including Lalibela


Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa at Bole International Air port
Meet and greet Network Travel and Tour Agency representative at Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa, and transferred to the hotel. Overnight stay in Reliance Hotel Apartment.

Day 2: City tour in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa is the third highest capital of the world on an altitude of 2300-2500 m. with a pleasant climate and a background of green with eucalyptus trees covered mountains. The city is founded in 1886 by Emperor Menelik II and Queen Taitu.
Visit Entoto Mountains, with very nice view over the capital, the National/Ethnographic museum, St George church and the Merkato, biggest open air market in Africa. Overnight stay in Reliance Hotel Apartment.

Day 3: Drive to Kombolcha
Today after breakfast drive will take you to Kombolcha. En route visit the Selassie church at Debre Brehan. Overnight stay in Sunny side hotel.

Day 4: Drive to Lalibela
The city contains 11 monolithic churches that were built in the 12th century and are carved out of the pink granite rock; they have been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight stay in Mountain View or Tukul Village hotel.

Day 5: Visit the Rock-hewn Churches of Lalibela
This morning after breakfast you will visit the three groups of the Rock-hewn churches of Lalibela. Overnight stay in Mountain View or Tukul Village hotel.

Day 6: Drive to Mekelle
An early morning drive after breakfast take you to Mekelle. Overnight Mekelle at Milano Hotel or Axum Hotel.

Day 7: Drive to Hamed Illa
Drive from Mekelle to Hamed Ila via Berehale, where you will pick up police scouts, road guides and permits for the Afar region. From Berehale, proceed driving to Hamed Ila. You will see the camel caravans along the way, carrying salt from the salt lake to Mekele for sale. Overnight camping in Hamed Ila.

Day 8: Visit the Dallol Depression and Lake Asale
After breakfast, take a day trip to Dallol, which at 116m below sea level is the lowest point on the African continent. You will also visit Lake Asale, which is the salt lake from which the Afar nomads extract salt. You will witness their laborious task of removing salt from the ground as hundreds of camels relax before the long trek back to Mekelle. At the end of the day you will return to Hamed Ila for overnight camping.

Day 9: Drive to Erat ale
An early morning drive takes you from Hamed Ila, to Erta Ale via Kusawad. The Erta Ale volcano has been in a constant state of eruption for over 40 years. You will camp in the village of El Dom, where it will be an early-to-bed night.

Day 10: Visit the active volcano Erat ale & drive to Afdera
Today is an early-to-rise start at 2:00 Am to start your hike to the crater rim of the Erta Ale volcano. At the top, you will peer down at the permanent lava lake while the sun rises over the horizon. Definitely the highlight of the trip! After the hike back to camp and a bit of breakfast, you’ll continue driving to Lake Afdera for overnight camping.

Day 11: Drive to Semera
Lake Afdera is a wonderfully bright green lake situated with the black basalt mountains behind. It’s a stunning location. Here you can see more salt extraction from the lake, where the Afar nomads continue the same activities that have for centuries. The salt extraction here is the main supply of salt to Addis Ababa. Overnight in Semera local hotel.

Day 12: Drive to Awash National Park
Today after breakfast you drive from Semera to Awash National Park through the Yangudi-Rassa National Park. Overnight on the edge of Awash Falls. Overnight stay in Awash Falls Lodge.

Day 13: Drive back to Addis Ababa and departure to home
In the morning after breakfast drive back to Addis via Mojo. You will arrive in Addis Ababa late afternoon and you will do some shopping for souvenirs. After a farewell dinner check-in for flight back home.

Be sure that our travel was really enjoyable and we thank you a lot for the very nice organization and the well balancing of the tour.
